Rainfly are a four piece from Barnsley and have a four-track demo (May 2006) up for review.
The firt track entitled 'Chapter Final' is an excellent punky / bluesy number filled with
plenty of talented lead guitar and catchy vocals. The quiet middle section is followed by
a very well done accelerando section (gradually getting faster for any non-musicians out
there) bringing the song back up to speed. A brilliant opening song!
Song two 'I Would If I Weren't' is much more bluesy than the first track - a good track to
dance or chill out to, depending on your mood! It features excellent rhythm and lead guitar
and combined with bass and drums shows that this band can really groove! Track three 'In
Memory' is a beautiful acoustic ballad (aside from excellent the lead solo in the middle)
with excellent female backing vocals. It is highly reminiscent of acoustic rock ballads of
the 80's, an excellent song.
The final track of the demo 'Under A New Moon (This Year)' is a bog-standard rock/indie song
and is somewhat of a let-down after the quality of the previous three track. On a positive
note it is well written and played, just a little lack-lustre compared to the other tracks.
Overall this is an awesome demo from a talented band! Definitely worth checking out.
*As an aside, it's good (from a drummer's perspective anyway) to hear of a female drummer
for a change! :D
