Dead Like Harry (DLH) executed a professional and uplifting entrance, and the life flowed back into the crowd. The set started with the very well chosen "Steel Town" which gives Sheffield the celebration it deserves. They looked fantastic, on a bigger stage than I have ever seen them on before. Their blend of folk, rock and pop provided a much needed contrast in the evening. They looked good to, like they could be bothered to make the effort. I am faintly reminded of Beautiful South, but I would not want to label them as they are very much themselves and no influence shows too strongly.

The 6 piece band amazingly seems to have no weak link. The drummer Gracjan plays with a minimal kit, but gets more out of it than many drummers get out of something that fits only in an attic. Robin on bass clearly loves what he is doing and puts so much energy and enthusiasm into his playing, that the bass lines really lift in the music. Sam's guitars and Sally's keyboards give the music a full and rich quality. The vocals are another resoundingly strong point, and Matt Taylor is a superb front man with a fantastic voice. The backing vocals provided by Sally and new member Alice are haunting and beautiful, Alice has a beautiful voice, and I can’t wait to see them again when she has grown into her role a little more.

DLH played an amazing set, and showed off their best songs, including "Lost Without You" (a favourite of mine) and "Secrets" which I had not heard before, hope they play it again. They were the first act of the evening to look like they were enjoying themselves. Their songs are extremely well written, and the band have put a great deal of diversity into the set to make each song stand out. This included variations such as harmonica, two keyboards, and Sam on vocals. Thank you DLH, by the end of your set I wanted to live again!

Picture of a live performance by Dead Like Harry
SUNRISE

We walked out to the sand
From the darkness of the land
The moonlight on the sea
Lit a path for you and me
Smoke drifted through the air
Ran my fingers through your hair
June passion in your eyes
You waited patiently for sunrise

A warm rain fell all around
On the streets of a northern town
We walked past the arcade lights
Took shelter for the night
A mist lingered in the air
Ran my fingers through your hair
We lay under summer skies
And waited patiently for sunrise

Dawn broke on the strand
Where we lay hand in hand
I looked at you in morning light
Said I was drunk on life
The minutes swayed, the hours rolled
Deep down in my soul
I lost it all to secret eyes
The night we waited for the sunrise

Lyrics by
Matthew Taylor and Sam Taylor.
